The dust has settled in Greensboro. Byron Stephenson battled a tough match losing 3-2 to Nicholas Coe of Asheboro for 2nd place. Joe Scott placed 4th in a battle with Jadakiss Jumper of Morehead losing a 1-0 decision. Orange placed 11th in the tournament. Thanks for a GREAT season!!!

Results from Mid-East 3A Regionals
This weekend our Orange Panthers traveled to Eden, NC to compete in the 3A Mid-East Regional tournament held @ Morehead High School. Our Panthers took 13 wrestlers & was faced with an uphigh road. The Panthers advanced 5 wrestlers to the semifinals with Gonzalo & Byron advancing to the finals. The consolation semi-finals were a battle with only 2 of 7 Panthers making it through to the finals. After all the dust had settled, the Panthers finished the region in 3rd place with 127 points with 4 wrestlers advancing to Greensboro to the State Championship.

Tonight our Orange Panthers traveled to Chapel Hill for the start of the State Dual Team Championship. In round 1 started @ 138 lbs with the Panthers facing Terry Sanford from Fayetteville. The Panthers started out strong building a 17-0 lead thru 2 pins & a tech fall. Terry Sanford came back with a decision to cut the lead to 17-3. The Panthers came back with a major & a pin before yielding 2 pins to make the score 27-15. A major & 2 pins later the Panthers were in command witha 43-15. The Panthers yielded a decision & a pin before finishing with an injury default to win 49-24.
Morehead beat Chapel Hill to advance to the 2nd round vs Orange. The coaching staff knew this was going to be a battle & prepared the wrestlers. The match started @ 145 lbs. Trent Tanner used 4 take downs to win a tough decision 8-4 to start the Panthers with a 3-0 lead. Melik Jimenez @ 152 fought a tough battle with Tyler Dabbs. After a scoreless 1st Period Tyler chose bottom for the 2nd period. He escaped but Melik worked a takedown before the period ended to lead 2-1. In the 3rd period, Melik chose down & escaped. The battle continued throughout the 3rd period for control but neither wrestler could gain an advantage & Mekil wins the decision 3-1 to increase the Orange lead 6-0. At 160 Alex Coates faced tough Ben Bullins. This match was a battle & Alex frustrated Ben through out the match making Ben earn ever point. Alex used a very good defense to keep Ben to a major decision maikng the score 6-4 Orange. At 170 Logan Smith faced Will Dabbs. Logan wrestled a good match before getting caught & pinned making the score Orange 6 Morehead 10. The 182 match was the match of the 6 footers. Both Payton Wilson & his opponent Anthony Harvey were tall & lanky. The first period went scoreless. Harvey took down to start the 2nd & escaped to lead 1-0 as the 2nd period ended. The third period started wit Payton in the down position. Payton fought hard to escape or reverse his opponent. In the late part of the third period Payton worked a reversal. Payton controlled Anthony to win the decisio 2-1 cutting Moreheads lead to 10-9. In the 195 match Juan Torres faced a tough Tyshawn Olverson. Despite Juans efforts to score, Tyshawn seemed to have the counter & score. Juan lost a tough battle 12-2 & Morehead increased their lead to 14-9. At 220 Jacob Flowers faced Cameron Sanders. Jacob was taken down & put to his back. Jacob fought get to his belly but was unable to escape the pin. Moreheads lead now increased to 20-9. At 285 faced George Blackstock for the 3rd time this year. In previous matches they split wins. This was the rubber match. After a scoreless first period, George chose bottom to start the second period. George escaped. Byron worked hard the rest of the second period looking for the takedown. Finally at the end of the second perio Byron was success & gained a takedown to lead 2-1. The third period found Byron coosing bottom. He escaped to lead 3-1, was awarded a stalling point & managed a takedown to finish the match winning by decision 6-2. The Morehead lead was now cut to 20-12. Justin Hutchins faced tough Dylan Jones @ 106. Justin fought hard but came up short losing by major decision 8-0. Moreheads lead now 24-12. Bailey Hawkins use 2 escapes & a takedown to decision Zaine Hairston 4-2 cutting the Morehead lead to 24-15. At 120 Malcolm Phillips had his hands full with a tough William Pryor. Despite fighting of his back 3 times, Malcom was pinned at the 3:47 mark. Moreheads lead now 30-15. At 126 Mitchell Lopeman faced Marge Mills. Mitchell fell behind early despite some good shots. He lost by a pin at the 3:30 mark. Moreheads lead now 36-15/ In the 132 lb match, Gonzalo Garcia Contoral faced a very tough Mike Jones. Despite Gonzalos quick reactions, Mike managed to score takedowns. It was a very tough battle but Gonzalo lost 11-4 & Moreheads lead increased to 39-15. In the final match Joe Scott @ 138 lbs received a forfeit to make the final score 39-21.
This was a tough loss. Orange Wresling has a lot to be PROUD of this season. The team finished with a 26-2 record, Big 8 Conference Champions & a very SUCCESSFUL season. In tonight's match the team showed a lot of HEART just as they have ALL season. Congratulations on another GREAT season. THANKS for the effort & memories. There is still more wrestling to be done as we wish all the wrestlers Good Luck in Regionals which start February 13 in Eden, NC @ Morehead High School. See you in Eden!

Our Panthers traveled to Chapel Hill for the showdown for thw Big 8 Conference Championship. Our Panthers came to wrestle & defend their 13th Conference Championship. The Panthers were pumped & ready to wrestle when the whistle sounded. The Panthers started STRONG moving ot to a 30-0 lead using 1 pins, a forfeit & 2 decisions. The Orange fans came out in force to cheer on the Panthers. Scoring 2 more pins, & 3 decisions the Panthers won their 13th consective Conference Championship final score 51-15. Congratulations to the Orange Panthers, the Coaching staff & the fans on a well deserved WIN. Next up is the Big 8 Conference Tournament back @ Chapel Hill on Saturday January 31st. Last night our Orange Panthers traveled to Southern Durham for a Tri-meet between Southern Durham & Webb. In the 1st match vs Southern Durham the Panthers started with 5 forfeits. The Panthers used 3 pins , 1 decision & 2 more forfeits to win 63-15. In the 2nd match vs Webb the Panthers started with a pin, lost 2 decisions, then added 3 pins & 7 forfeits to win 66-12. These wins put the Panthers Conference record @ 6-0 with one more conference match to go on Thursday night @ Chapel Hill @ 6:00 pm. Saturday our Orange Panthers competed in the Havelock @ Havelock High School. The teams were Havelock, Central Nash, West Carteret, Swansboro & Orange. In the 1st round Orange faced West Carteret. Our Panthers used 5 pins, 1 tech fall, 3 major decisons & a forfeit to win 57-9. In the 2nd round, our Panthers faced the host school Havelock. Again the Panthers started strong using 4 pins, 3 tech falls, 2 decisions & 1 2x overtime to win 51-16. In the 3rd round our Panthers faced Central Nash who were short some wrestlers. The Panthers used 5 pins, 1 major decision, & 7 forfeits to win 76-6. In the final round our Panthers faced a re-match with Swansboro. This was a tough match from the start. The Panthers started with a decision & a pin to lead 9-0, Swans boro came back with 3 major decision & a decision to lead 15-9. An Orange decision cut the Swansboro lead to 15-12. Swans boro pinned & Orange responded with a decision making the score 21-15. A Swansboro major decision & pinned dropped the Panthers to a 31-15 deficit. The PAnthers came back with a major decion to cut Swansboros lead to 31-19. Swansboro pinned & Orange gained a decision in the final match to make the final score 37-22. A tough match for our Panthers who fought tough but came up short. Next up Wednesday Night @ Webb followed by Thursday night @ Southern Durham as the Panthers focus on the conference matches. Tonight our Orange Panthers faced conference opponent Northern Vance. The match started on a high note starting weight 285 where Byron Stephenson recorded his 100th Win. The Panthers took control early with 3 forfeits & 10 pins to defeat Northern Vance 78-6. This is the 4th conference win with 3 morre conference matches to go. This weekend the Varsity travels east to Havelock High School to compete in the Havelock Duals. Starting time 9:30 am. The JV has a busy weekend with a 9 team JV tournament @ Chatham Central on Saturday @ 9:00 followed by the JV State tournament on Monday @ Davie County @ 10:00 am. This weekend our Orange Panthers traveled to Greensboro to compete in the Quentin Crosby Tournament. It was a 25 team tournament that tested our Panthers. The competion was very tough with teams like Southeast, Morehead, Cave Spring, Va, Riverside, Union Pines, AL Brown, Ragsdale West Forsyth, & East Rowan to mention a few. The Panthers found out early the competion was tough. By the time the dust had settled on Saturday night our Panthers finished in 6th Place. The Panthers placed 6 wrestlers:

Tonight Our Orange Panthers met their cross town rival Cedar Ridge. Our Panthers started strong with 3 forfeits & never looked back. 14 wrestlers & 14 wins gave the Panthers a 78-0 win. A highlight of the match was Joe Scott. He won with a pin in 1:10 & the victory was his 100th Career Win. Congratulations Joe Scott & the Panthers as they win their 3 Conference Match. Next up is the Quentin Crosby Tournament in Greensboro this weekend. The JV team will be traveling to Glenn for a JV Tournament. January 3, 2015 Orange Winter Duals Results
This weekend our Orange Panthers hosted the Orange Winter Duals. It was a 5 team dual between Apex, Middle Creek, Swansboro, Wake Forest & Orange. Our Panthers faced a tough Swansboro team in the first round. The match started with Orange behind 11-0. Over the next 5 matches Orange scored 4 decisions & 1 pin to take the lead 18-11. A pin by Orange & a pin by Swansboro made the score 24-17. Our Panther won the next two matches with a decision & a pin, then Swansboro pinned to increase the Panther lead to 33-23. The Panthers were pinned in the next match to make the score 33-29. The Panthers had one more match & could not lose by a major, tech fall or pin if they were to win the match. In the last match The Panthers lost a 7-5 decision wining the match by 33-32. This match that kept the wrestlers, fans & the coaches on the edge of their seats. A GREAT win. In round two, our Panthers faced the Cougars of Apex. Using 4 pins, 2 forfeits, 1 tech fall, & 2 decisions to win 58-11. Next up was Middle Creek. The Panthers started strong & finished strong using 9 pins, 4 forfeits, & a major decision to win 82-0. In the final round our Panthers faced Wake Forest. The match started @ 145 lbs. After 2 matches the Panthers led 10-0. A tough loss @ 160 made the score 10-3. 2 pins, 1 injury default, 1 major decision & a decision pushed the Panther lead to 35-3. The Panthers finished the match with 2 forfeits, 2 pins while giving up a pin & decision finished with a 59-12 win. The Panthers move to 17-0 on the season. Our Orange Panthers finshed out 2014 with the Chapel Hill Tiger Classic Tournament. This year there were 37 teams in attendance. Our Panthers fought & scrapped over the two days. The Panthers finished 6th with 147.5 points. Below are the place results:

This weekend Our Orange Panthers traveled to Mebane for the Eastern Alamance Eagle Classic. This was a very good test for Our Panthers as there were 22 teams in attendance. Our Panthers fought some very hard battles on the mat giving some of their BEST performances this year. Despite the effort the Panthers, they had to battle Morehead, Southeast, & Northwest Guilford for a trophy. Our Panthers did well & managed to place 3rd with a total of 193.5 points. Great Effort & Results as the Panthers continue to improve. They have little time to lick their wounds as they travel to Chapel Hill for the Tiger Classic Monday & Tuesday. Tonight Our Orange Panthers traveled to Chatham County to wrestle the Northwood Chargers. The Panthers started strong with a forfeit & a pin to lead 12-0, At 120 there was a tough battle lost by a pin late in the 3rd period. 1 pin, 3 forfeits, 2 major decisions & a decision increased the lead to 47-6. 2 losses cut the lead to 47-15. A pin @ 220 & a decision @ Heavyweight finished the match with Our Panthers winning their 2nd Conference match & improving the team record to 13-0. Great job Panthers. Next up a tough weekend schedule with the Eastern Alamance Tournament on Friday & Saturday followed by the Chapel Hill Tiger Classic on Monday & Tuesday. Good Luck Panthers.

Today Our Orange Panthers traveled to Southwestern Guilford High School to compete in the Southwestern Guilford Round Robin Tournament. In Round 1, the Orange Panthers faced Western Alamance. 5 pins, 2 major decisions, 1 decision & 6 forfeits later the Panthers won 77-0. In Round 2 Our Panthers faced Eastern Guilford. THe Panthers used 7 pins & 3 forfeits to win 60-16. In Round 3, the Panthers faced North Davidson. The Panthers used 7 pins, 1 decision & 1 forfeit to record the win 51-24. In the final round Our Panthers faced Southestern Guilford. The Panthers used 8 pins, 1 major decision & 1 decision to win 58-13. The Panthers placed 1st in the tournament. The Panthers used 26 wrestlers in 4 match to compile a 4-0 record in the Round Robin. Great effort. Congratulations PANTHERS!!

Tonight Our Orange Panthers open conference play with the Cardinal Gibbons Crusaders. The Panthers started strong. The match started @ 138 lbs, 12 pins & 1 major decision later the Panthers had captured their 1st Conference victory 76-6.
Results from Jim King/Orange Invitational Tornament
This weekend the Orange Panthers hosted the 23 team Jim King/Orange Invitational Tournament. The tournament lasted 2 days against some very competitive teams. Our Orange Panthers placed 7 wrestlers & placed 2nd in the tournament with 195 points. Thanks go out the the parents who did a GREAT job keeping the hospitality suite, to the wrestlers who staff 5 scoring tables, & the coaching staff who prepared the Orange wrestlers for the tough competition.

The Orange Panthers hosted the 2014 Thanksgiving Quad featuring Northern Durham, Cedar Ridge & Southern Alamance.
In round 1, Orange met Northern Durham. The match started @ 120 lbs. Orange combined 2 forfeits, 3 pins & a major decision to lead 41-0. Northern Durham bounced back with 4 pins & a major decision to cut the lead to 41-28. The Panthers finished strong with a pin & forfeit to defeat Northern Durham 53-28. In Round 2, Orange met cross town rival Cedar Ridge. The Panthers worked to a 29-0 lead using 4 pins & a tech fall. Cedar Ridge responded with a pin to cut the lead 29-6. Orange then scored 2 pins & a major to lead 45-6. Cedar Ridge came back with a pin & the Orange Panthers finished the match with a pin & 3 forfeits to defeat Cedar Ridge 69-12. In the final round, Orange faced Southern Alamance. Orange worked to a 29-0 lead using a 2 forfeits, 2 pins & a decision. Orange forfeited @ 170 & suffered a pin @ 182 to lead 29-12. Orange scored a decision, received a forfeit & scored a pin to increase the lead to 42-12. Orange lost a tough OT match @ 106 & followed another OT match @ 113 in which Orange fought a tough fight & won. Add a forfeit @ 126 which lead to the 51-21 victory. Great way to start the Thanksgiving recess with 3 wins increasing the Orange Panthers record to 7-0.

Orange starts season with 2014 Orange November Duals. Orange wrestled 4 teams (East Davidson, South Stokes, North Davidson & East Chapel Hill). In round 1 Orange faced East Davidson & won 51-26. In round 2 Orange wrestled South Stokes to a 55-18 win. Round 3 Orange wrestled North Davidson to a 58-16 win & in the final round Orange wrestled East Chapel Hill winning 80-0. Orange wrestling saw a lot of new faces. Orange won 28 matches by pins, 4 by major decisions, 2 desicions, & 11 forfeits on their way to a 4-0 record. Congratulations Panthers on a GREAT start.
