STATE WRESTLING TOURNAMENT Update

Orange WINS!!! Orange WINS!!!!

March 2 10:16, when all the mats were finally rolled up, our Orange Panthers were State Champions. This years tournament was a battle to the end. Orange brought 10 wrestlers to Greensboro. We lost 4 after two rounds & moved 6 into the Semi-Finals. Orange was leading but had JM Robinson, Union Pines, & St Stephens on our tail. Orange was ahead by 29.5 but still needed to wrestle on as JM Robinson had 2 in the championship & 4 in the consolations. Collin Smith took 5th & Anderson Pope took 3rd. Combined with JM Robinson's loss of 3 of 4 in the Consolation increased the Orange Panther lead to 18.5 points going into the Finals. The final round was not kind to the Panthers as Joe Scott, Jack Twomey-Kozak, David Peters-Logue & Aubrey Browning placed 2nd. Still it was the team effort that paid off for the Panthers repeating as State Individual Champions. Congratulations Panthers, GREAT season.

March 1 8:16 pm, just returned. Sent 6 into the semi-finals. Joe Scott wins by pin 4:24,Collin Smith loses a heartbreaker 6-4, Jack Twomey-Kozak forces OT with 2 seconds left in the match & wins in OT 7-5, Anderson Pope also forced OT. Being agressive  as Anderson is, lost a heartbreaker 5-3. David Peters-Logue wrestled to a tough victory 4-3 & last & definitely not least, Aubrey Browning wrestled an action packed match finishing with a pin @ the 0:45 mark. GREAT job by the Orange Panthers. Will up date when the team scores are posted.

March 1, Today we lost Jared (120), Drew (170), Loagn (195), & Byron (285) in the consolation round. March 1, last night our Panthers wrestled the first round of the State Tournament. Joe (106), Collin (126), Jack (138), Anderson (145), David (160), Aubrey (182) won & moved to the Championship quarter-finals. There were some tough matches moving Jared (120), Drew (170), Logan (195), & Byron (285) moved into the consolations. Action resumes @ 9:00 am today starting with the 1st round consolation round. State Dual Team Results:

Feb 12, tonight the Orange Panthers started the quest for 3A State Dual championship by hosting Rounds 1 & 2 of the 3A Eastern State Dual. In round 1 Morehead wrestled Fike & won handledly 72-2. Orange faced Gray's Creek & won 45-24. This led to the round 2 battle of the Panthers. The match started @ 182 lbs. Morehead took an early lead & the Orange Panthers fought some tough close battles but eventually ran out of time. The Orange Panthers had a great run over the years & this year ended the season 17-2. Congratulations to the Panthers of Morehead & we wish them well in their quest for the 3A State Dual Team Championship.

The Orange Panthers will now prepare for the Mideast Regions @ Morehead HS on February 22nd & 23rd. More details to follow as they become available. Congratulations Orange Panthers on a GREAT season but there is still more work to do. Good Luck @ Regions.

Panthers Carolina 3A Champs

Feb 6, Our Panthers traveled to Chapel Hill Tigers to wrestle for the Carolina 3A Conference Championship. The match began at the 170 lbs weight class. After all the wrestling was complete our Panthers captured their 11 consective Conference Championship 60-3. The Panthers now await the 3A State Dual Team bracket to determine where & when they wil wrestle on next Tuesday night Feb 12. Congratulations Panthers for a job well done. Coach Shriner joins the 500 CareerWin Club

Last night at the Carolina 3A Duals Coach Shriner won his 500th Career Win. Jack Twomey-Kozak also won his 100th Career Win as the Panthers went 4-0 in the conference matches. After the match was the time to honor Senior Class of 2013. Thanks for the memories Adam Hill, Brock Wilson, Logan Joseph, Dylan Wilson, Kaleb Jimenez, Aubrey Browning, Michael Proctor, J ack Twomwy-Kozak & Anderson Pope. Jack Twomey-Kozak joins the 100 Career Win Club

 

Cpl Pruitt Rainey Invitational Results

This weekend our Orange Panthers traveled to Knightdale to wrestle in the Cpl Pruitt Rainey Invitational Tournament. The tournament is to honor one of Americas fallen heros Cpl Pruitt Rainey, 22, of Haw River, N.C.; assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment (Airborne), 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, Vicenza, Italy; died July 13, 2008 of wounds sustained when his outpost was attacked by small-arms fire and rocket-propelled grenades from enemy forces in Wanat, Afghanistan.

 

This was 21 team tournament. Team Orange had some new faces in the lineup to help fill in some gaps. The tournament started early & lasted all day. Some of our wrestlers couldn't finish the tournament due to the 5 match rule. Despite the length of the tournament, our Orange Panthers placed 10 of 14 wrestlers & came out on top taking 1st place. Orange Winter Duals

The Orange Winter Duals were held this weekend @ Orange High. First up was Davie County. Orange started out with a 9 pt lead. Davie County worked their way back to a 16-9 lead. Team Orange worked hard & regained the lead 24-16. Davie County won the next two matches to trail by 1, 24-23. Team Orange scored a tech fall & pin to take the lead for good winning 35-26.

The second match featured Orange vs DSA. Team Orange started slow but regained momentum. Team Orange scored second team victory by the score of 49-18.

In Round 4, Team Orange's third match, Northeast Guilford was the opponent. Team Orange started out strong worked their way to a 58-12 victory.

In the final match, round 5, Team Orange faced a tough Wake Forest-Rolesville. WF-R started fast & lead 9-0. Team Orange worked back to a 9-6 deficit, then WF-R increased their lead to 18-6. Team Orange bounced back to decrease lead & be trailing 18-15. In the 138 lbs match, Jack Twomey-Kozak was injured & WF-R lead 24-15. As a pre-caution Jack was removed to the hospital to be checked out. He left conscience & alert. The match continued with Team Orange trailing 24-15. The next 5 matches were won by Team Orange with 4 pins & one decision to take a commanding lead 42-24 with one match left. The final 42-30. Team Orange went 4-0 for the Winter Duals. Next up for Team Orange, Pruitt Rainey Invitational - Knightdale Saturday January 12 @ 9:00. The Teams thoughts & prayers are with Jack for a speedy recovery.

Jack's spine & neck have been checked out & they are fine.

He definitely has a concussion and will be off the mat for the next 10 days. He has a bad headache and is tired. Best Wishes on a speedy recovery

The Panthers traveled to Chapel Hll for the Tiger Holiday Classic Tournament. After a tough & grueling two days of wrestling our Panthers placed 3rd with 155.5 points. 5 of the 13 wrestlers placed. Congratulations to Anderson Pope who surpassed 100 wins this weekend. Great Job Anderson.

This weekend the Panthers traveled east to Cary for the 2012 Sgt Mark Adams Tournament. This was a 29 team tournament. Our Panthers had some tough matches wrestling 2 grueling days. When all the wrestling was completed, our Panthers placed 7th. Great team effort. Coming up the next battle @ Chapel Hills Tiger Classic Friday/Saturday in Chapel Hill.

Panthers Take Eastern Alamance Eagle Classic

This weekend our Panthers traveled to Mebane for the 22 team Eastern Alamance Eagle Classic. When Friday night wrestling ended, the Panthers punched 13 of 14 Panthers into the Championship Quarter Finals & one wrestler into the Consolation Quarter Finals. Saturday started fast & furious. Our Panthers wrestled tough throughout Saturday & by the time the mats were rolled up our Panthers placed 13 wrestlers. Three 1sts, three 2nds, two 3rds, two 4ths, two fifths, & one 6th. Our Panthers lost some close ones & fought through some close matches for wins. Great TEAM effort by our Panthers. Next up the 32 team Sgt Mark Adams Tournament @ Cary Friday & Saturday.

Orange Takes 2nd Place @ Eden Holiday Classic Duals

Our Panthers traveled to Morehead High School for the Eden Holiday Classic. Although the venue was familiar, the format was brand new. The JV squad competed in an individual tournament, while the Varsity wrestlers competed in a dual team tournament. Opening up against Martinsville the Panthers won 45 – 27. Next up was Southwest Guilford, Orange 54 – SW Guilford 14.

Probably the most anticipated match up was the rematch of last years' State 3A Championship, Orange vs. Southwest Randolph. It was back and forth for the bulk of the matchup, but our Panthers were victorious 34 – 28.

After another tough matchup against host Morehead, Orange was again victorious 36 – 26. The final contest of the tournament was against Jack Britt, it was an uphill battle all the way with Jack Britt giving Orange their first loss of the season, 9 - 60.

Team Orange finishes 3rd @ JKO/Orange Invitational

This weekend Team Orange hosted 22 teams for the Jim King/Orange Invitational Tournament. The competition was tough this year. Team Orange had quite a few new faces on this years team after graduating 12 Seniors from last years team. The wrestling was fast & furious starting @ ~ 4:00 pm on 5 mats. The tournament ended @ ~ 9:30 & when all the dust had settled, Team Orange placed 3rd. Team Orange place 7 wrestlers in the finals but not enough to overcome Northwest Guilford (2nd) & the Championship Cary. The Team Orange wrestlers had a great showing wrestling with a lot of heart so early in the season. The fan support in the stands was outstanding especially from last years Seniors. Thanks to Jim King for helping with the medal presentations, the wrestlers who helped with the tables, mat setup & tear down. A special THANKS for the OUTSTANDING hospitality SUITE. THe Coaches ALL ravel how great the food was & the numerous choices available. Thanks to ALL the trainers keeping our wrestlers injuriey needs wll taken care of. Thanks to the Coaching staff for preparing Team Orange in such a short period of time. And last but least THANKS to Natalie Intehar, Holly Smith, & Michaela Shriner for keeping the tournament on track & accurate at the head table.

Orange Panthers open season with strong showing

Tonight the Panthers hosted the 2012 Orange Thanksgiving Duals. There were many old faces as well as many new faces. In the first match, the Panthers held off a tough Northern Durham team. Orange faced cross town rival Cedar Ridge in the second match. Cedar Ridge is in a re-building year and the Panthers had a good showing. In the final match the Panthers faced Southern Alamance who always come prepared to wrestle. The Panthers wrestled some tough matches and forged ahead to win the match. Up next for the Panthers will be defending their Jim King/Orange Invitational title November 30th/December 1st @ Orange.

PANTHERS WIN!!! Zach Rimmer 145 lbs State Champion:

What a State tournament. At the end of wrestling on Friday night the Panthers took a slim 5 point lead into Saturday. The Panthers fought & clawed their way thru the consolations thru tremendous teamwork. After the dust had settled following the consolation finals, the Panthers had scored enough points to take a commanding lead. With 1st place locked up the only unfinished businss was Zach Rimmer's 145 lbs championship match. Zach wrestled well & defeated Alexander Knight of Rocky Mount 6-1. Zach was now a member of the State Champion elite. The teamwork displayed this weekend was outstanding. Every member of the team contributed points which led to the 1st place finish. Panthers capture 5th Consectutive Regional Title

Our Panthers traveled to Morehead HS in Eden, NC for the 3A Mid-East Regional Tournament. The Panthers made a strong showing. After Friday night, 14 Panthers were still in the running. 11 Panthers made it to the semi-finals with 7 advancing to the finals. PANTHERS WIN !!! State 3A Champions 2012 !

The Panthers capped off their second undefeated season in a row with the North Carolina 3A Dual Team Championship over Southwestern Randolph in front of a sell out Hometown crowd. The Panthers started strong & never looked back. The starting wt was 138. Anderson Pope scored a major decision to get the Panthers started. Next up @ 145, Zach Rimmer scored a crowd pleasing 9-7 OT win. At 152 David Peters-Logue won by a 2:38 fall which really pumped up the Orange fans. JD Wynn @ 160 scored the second OT win 10-8 in another tight match putting the Panthers in the lead 16-0. At 170 Cole McLelland wrestled a very tough match ending up on the short end 9-4. The match of the night belonged to Aderiic Snipes @ 182. Aderiic shot in for a take down but was countered & turned for 2 nearfall pts to trail 0-4 going into the 2nd period. In the 2nd period, Aderiic reversed Tyler Robbins but was reveresed to trail 2-6 going into the 3rd period. In the 3rd period, Aderiic took neutral, was taken down & turned to his back, now trailing 10-2. Aderiic reversed Tyler & pinned him at the 4:41 mark. The Orange fans were exstatic. The Orange fans were up on their feet cheering in fanatically. The win increased the Panther lead to 22-3. This match had the fans of both sides up & down throughout the match. At 195, Jarrel Lea scored a tough decision and Wesley used a quick takedown into a pin at the 1:09 mark to increase the Panther lead to 31-3. At 285, Byron Stephenson wrestled a tough match & only gave up a decision 7-0. The Panthers were in command control needing only a win to win the match. At 106, Martin Carreon met the criteria by winning by decision of 7-1 to increase the Panther lead to 34-6. Orange forfeited out to make the final score 30-34 and accomplish another underfeated season 23-0, winning the 3A State Team Dual Championship for the 2nd time in 2 yrs. For his performance, Aderiic Snipes earned the Most Valuable Wrestler Award. Congratulations Aderiic. Congratuations to the Coaches, wrestlers & fans of Southwestern Randolph on a great season.

Great job by our Panthers. Don't they just make you so PROUD!!! Thanks to ALL the parents & fans for their support, especially the alumni turnout tonight. A special THANKS to the Orange Wresling MOMS Club & John Bianco for providing the wonderful after match dinner for both teams. Great Job. The Panthers compete tonight for the 3A State Team Dual Champions

Tonight @ 6:00 pm our Orange Panthers compete for the 3A State Dual Team Championship @ Orange High. Our Panther wrestlers & Coaching staff have worked hard all season to prepare for this match. The Panthers will face the Cougars of Southwestern Randolph. This will be a battle to the end. Come out & support our PANTHERS. Good Luck Panthers. Go PANTHERS!!!!!!!!!!

 

The Panthers repeat as 3A Eastern Region Champs

Tonight our Orange Panthers wrestled 2 tough matches. In the first match vs South Brunswick the panthers found themselves behind 9-0 before tying the score 9-9. The Panthers lost the next match making the score 13-9 but re-grouped, scratched through very close matches to built up a 43-13 over the next 6 matches. Panthers win 43-25 & earn trip to the 3A Eastern Regional Finals vs Morehead. The panthers started strong against Morehead building up a 15-0 lead before giving up a pin to make it 15-6. From there on the Panthers fought their way to a 40-22 WIN & an opportunity to wrestle for the 3A State Dual Championship @ Orange @ 6:00 pm on Saturday 2/11 vs Southwest Randolph. Come out & support the Orange Panthers as they strive to repeat as 3A State Dual Champions.
